Frequently asked questions

Is your chalet / apartment ‘ski in \ ski out’?
At Chalet Miravidi:  Our chalet is one of the closest chalets to the piste in Montchavin and for a large part of the season an intermediate/ confident skier can

put their skis on at the door and ski down the 40 metre path that is at the edge of the garden and join the blue run to the chairlift. The majority of the time

it is possible to ski back, we do this for a large part of the season but it does depend on snow conditions.  There is also an aerial image of our chalet within

our image gallery that shows where our chalet is.

We have created a video of the route from the chalet to the blue piste this gives you a good idea how close we are to the piste.  We are happy to send you a link to this, please just ask.

We all ski but we're taking our 5 year old grandson for the first time next year so is the ski school easily accessible?

We are lucky to have a really good ski school here in Montchavin and our guests really love it too.  Evolution 2 in Montchavin - here is their link    http://montchavin.evolution2.com/en/   We have many guests with young children who come back year after year because the children have loved their lessons.  They only ever have a maximum of 8 in a group and make sure that it’s fun for everyone whilst making sure everyone improves too.  The ski school  in is in the centre of Montchavin, so there are a few options regarding your 5 year old to the lessons.

  1. You could ski down the blue run to the ski school with the little one between your legs.

  2. If you hired your skis from the ski hire shop that is also part of the ski school, then you could leave the skis and boots at the ski shop ready for the next day.  Therefore avoiding carrying the little ones ski equipment to and from the chalet.

  3. You could drive to the ski school (about 5 minutes) or walk down in normal shoes (about 10/15 minutes) and collect your equipment when you get there.

What are the snow conditions like early or late in the season?

The resort of La Plagne is one of the highest resorts in the Europe and opens its lifts to holidaymakers from middle of December until late April every year.

We have been here since 2002 and we have always been able to ski back to home throughout the season. Even in a worse case scenario sometimes

conditions may be 'better' further up the mountain or over in Les Arcs, but you can always get a ski lift there, no need for buses.

At Chalet Miravidi - How far is your nearest bar for après ski?

Guests often like to stop off at Les Coches village after skiing and get some provisions at the shop there, stop for a drink at the bar, and then just ski down the blue piste home which takes about 2 minutes.  There are plenty of options both in Montchavin and the village of Les coches that is only a 15 minute walk away.

We are a party of single sex 18-25 year olds looking for a lively inexpensive ski holiday - is this the right place?

Montchavin and Les Coches are both family friendly resorts with around 7 bars and around 10-15 village restaurants.  If you prefer a party and music scene, then you my find Montchavin too quiet for you.  If you are at all unsure please contact us and we can chat about what our apartments are like and what Montchavin and Les Coches have to offer.

Do you allow smoking in the apartments?

NO!!!!! Smoking inside our apartments or in and around the hotub area is strictly forbidden. If we discover smoking

inside the apartment your security deposit will be immediately lost as we will need to thoroughly remove any evidence of smoke for our next guests.

There are ashtrays and seating provided outside the apartment for those wishing to smoke.

Is the hot tub and sauna shared and how are they supervised?

The hot tub and sauna are shared between the two rental apartments in the chalet. There is a reservation sheet in the hot tub area so that each apartment
can reserve their private use of the hot tub either 17-18h30 or 19-20h30.

For security and monitoring reasons we have installed CCTV to monitor the hot tub area.

At all times we ask for under 16 years olds to be supervised by an older adult and respect that it is a hot tub and not a swimming pool.

We would like to pay cash on arrival is that ok?

We ask our guests to pay the full amount of their holiday accommodation one month before they arrive.  We also ask all our guests to make sure they have suitable holiday insurance.  Should your group or family have a problem and cannot travel then you would be insured for this scenario within your travel insurance.   Unfortunately we are not insured for guests not being able to travel etc. We hope you understand our reasons here.

Please contact us to confirm.

What will be provided on our arrival?

Our apartments are self catering apartments, therefore guests are expected to provide their own consumable items, such as condiments & oils etc, kitchen towel, bin bags, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets and toilet roll.  We don't leave food that previous guests haven't used for the next guests in the apartment purely for hygiene and safety reasons.
We include Towels (one large and a smaller one per guest) a handful of dishwasher tablets, 2 toilet rolls, tea towel, Kitchen bin liner, some washing up liquid and sponge/cloth.

Is there a washing machine for guests to use?

We have a washing machine machine in the bootroom on the ground floor of the chalet.  We dont have a tumble dryer though for ecologial reasons.  All washing done would need to be air dried on the racks in the apartment.

What happens if we have a problem during our stay?

It’s important to us that we are providing an excellent standard of accommodation. We have given as much accurate information as possible about our chalet, our apartments and the villages of Montchavin and Les Coches on our website to help all our guests make the right choice.

If any issues arise during your stay no matter how small, we provide various options to contact us depending on its urgency.
Please use either texts or whatsapp messages to let us know if you need us.
Or if it is urgent, please telephone us.

One of our party doesn’t like skiing much what else is there to do during the day?

OK..... it’s a surprise to us avid skiers that it’s possible to enjoy our mountain without skis or a board strapped to our feet. Here are just a few suggestions on how to enjoy this wonderful part of the world without heading down a mountain at high speed!!!!
Indoor swimming pool and spa just 10 minutes walk away from our Chalet at Montchavin.

Nature trail walks and snow shoeing organised by local tourist office.

Cross country lessons and trails.

Good pedestrian access to lifts so you can meet up with family for a picnic or at a mountainside restaurant.

During the season as a family, we often take a lift up the mountain and follow numerous well sign posted routes back to the village. (you can hire snow shoes in the village)

The telecabine that links Montchavin Village Centre to Les Coches is free to use during the day until about 17hrs, then there is a free bus shuttle for the evenings that links Montchavin village centre to Les Coches Village

Just a short drive away is the Vanoise National Park. This has truly amazing views and scenery and wildlife. We regularly see Chamoix and Marmotts there...

We are an all adult group will the apartment be spacious enough for us all?
Our Mont Blanc apartment is approximately 90m2 and sleeps up to 8 in 4 bedrooms and has a good sized lounge and dining area. The dining table seats 4 people on each side and then a ninth person on the end of the table. For your comfort the maximum number of adultes is 8, the 9th bed in purely for a child in a family group.
Our Bellecote apartment sleeps a maximum of 4 adults plus a child in 2 bedrooms.  The bedrooms do have reduced headroom for a small part of the under roof design,  but this is located over the bed space.  This is shown on our floorplan for the Bellecote apartment.

We would ask you to take a good look at the floorplans and photographs along with the detailed descriptions of the apartments so you can make a fully informed decision as to the suitability of the apartment for your group.

We are happy to answer any questions or queries that you may have, however small.

We are thinking of getting the Eurostar or travelling by train, would you recommend this?

YES....... When we lived in the UK we tried all travel methods and found the train to be by far the most relaxing. You can either get the direct Eurostar service

to Bourg St Maurice or Eurostar to Paris and the overnight sleeper service to Bourg St Maurice.

If you are traveling by train, try to find a train that stops at LANDRY, so that you can link in with the public bus that collects from the station and brings guests up as far as Montchavin or Les Coches.  Otherwise you will need to factor in the price of a transfer from Bourg St Maurice or Aime to the chalet.  However, if you are able to stop at Bourg St Maruice, you could do your food shopping there and use the taxi to get you, your luggage and the shopping up to the chalet!

Do we need a car when we are here?

A car is convenient for any independent ski holiday. It is by no means essential as shopping can be done locally in the well equipped supermarket and local shops you will find most things available without having to drive anywhere. However, as with every resort you can expect to pay 20-30% more in the local supermarket than in the larger supermarkets on the valley floor. If you are driving out try to stop off before you arrive to stock up on your essentials.

Guests often find they don’t use their car at all during their stay.  The Local Sherpa shop offers online delivery.

We have a disabled/elderly member of our party, is your accommodation suitable?
A person who finds flights of steps difficult may struggle with the steps to the property. We don’t have roadside access for the chalet, so the closest you can get to the chalet with a car is several steps and a path away.

so a wheelchair and other mobility aids will be difficult.

Do you have a raclette machine we can use?

Yes  -  They are not kept in the apartment for space/storage reasons.

Just let us know which day and we'll leave it ready for you and when you have finished just leave it outside your apartment.    We are sorry but we don't

offer fondu sets as they pose a fire hazard with flammable liquids required.

We have young children and would like to know what equipment is available for our children?

We can provide high chair, travel cot or bed guard for our very small guests, subject to availability.

We are bit worried about paying for our holiday in advance, how do we know you really exist?

We fully understand that you maybe concerned and have heard horror stories to this effect. For this reason we want to provide our guests with the following assurance:
1. We are happy to email a copy of our french business registration 'KBis' certificate.

2. We work closely with Evolution 2 ski school in Montchavin, they would be happy to confirm this.

3. We often use facebook to post photos of our off piste trips please feel free to have a look at the facebook links on this page.

Is it possible for a later checkout time ?

We ask our guests to vacate the apartments no later than 10am. It is very unusual that we don't have guests arriving the same day so we need this time to prepare the apartment. Guests can also book at very short notice so we must plan for this..... However if you would like a later checkout time please ask

and we will do our best to accommodate this. If this is possible and it is for longer than 2 hours we will change a late checkout fee to cover the running

costs of the apartment and rescheduling of changeover staff.

When planning your flights and transfers we ask you to always plan for a 10 am departure to avoid any disappointment.

We are fortunate to have a very good indoor swimming pool and spa in the village and many guests choose this as an option on there last day.

Could you store our bags on transfer day ?

It is normally possible to find somewhere to store your luggage at if you wish to ski on your transfer day however it will not be possible

to have access to the apartment for shower and toilet facilities.
